I have had many massages over the years to help reduce my stress level and help loosen my lower back and shoulder muscles. I went to Gail Perry for a deep tissue massage, she is the owner of Serene Changes. Abdominal bodywork is used in many cultures. It focuses entirely on the organs and muscles of the abdomen. The strokes used by the therapist stimulates the peristalsis of the small intestines, tones up the muscles of the abdomen walls and mechanically eliminates the contents of both large and small intestines. It flushes toxins from the body. It can used to assist the stimulation of the reproductive organs may have shifted and can obstruct the flow to blood and lymph vessels.
A subtle form of massage based on the ancient Chinese healing art. It is a quiet form of energy work based on balancing the meridian system and extraordinary vessels through touch. While acupuncture and acupressure use the same points, acupuncture employs needles, while acupressure uses the gentle but firm pressure of hands (and even feet). Acupressure can be effective in helping relieve headaches, eyestrain, sinus problems, neck pain, backaches, arthritis, muscle aches, relieve anxiety and tension due to stress.
No oils or lotions are used in this massage. The client remains clothed.
If you are curious about us, please stop by on “Second Saturdays” (During the Sacramento Art Walk) for a 10 – 15 min chair massage. This will allow you to sample our style.

Deep Tissue Massage
The term Deep Tissue is often used to describe a Swedish massage with more pressure. In actuality, it is a combined set of techniques that allow a therapist to move beyond a client’s superficial fascia and musculature and target the deeper musculature of the body.
This is much more of a targeted massage used for injury management and to ease repetitive stress rather than the relaxation style of massage that you would get from the standard Swedish.
Hot Stone Massage
Hot stone or therapeutic stone massage uses heated stones that are placed along the back, the hands and the feet. While you are comfortably lying on the table, the therapist uses additional stones to provide you with the ultimate experience of a deeper massage. It can be used for injury recovery as well as for stress release with minimal discomfort. This takes your massage to an even greater level.
Infant Massage Class
Based on the International Association of Infant Massage (IAIM) curriculum taught, this class is taught on site or as a personalized in-home session. As a parent, loving relative, or caregiver of an infant, you want to see your child flourish. In this course, you will be taught massage strokes for your infant as well as participant in class discussions. This will allow nurturing touch to thrive and encourage healthy communication. Touch is as important as food for healthy mental and physical development. This class is taught over a five week period, usually one hour per week (adjustments of sessions are based on infant’s intolerances and needs). It is highly recommended that all participants attend all the sessions to get the maximum benefit.
Massage is attentive, pleasurable touch that can promote your baby’s well-being while increasing your ability to respond to his or her needs. The brief time we have with our children is precious.

This is probably the most practiced style of massage at Serene Changes. A thoroughly comprehensive massage based on many different techniques instead of a single specific type of bodywork. This is a customized session where the therapist evaluates your physical condition and provides services tailored to best suit your unique situation. This is a maintenance massage.
Lymphatic Drainage Massage
Lymphatic massage or lymph drainage massage is a technique used to help increase lymph flow. This technique will lightly stretch the walls of the lymph vessels and encourage lymph drainage. Increased lymph flow removes harmful substances from the tissues and increases immune function. The lymph system is essential to the body’s drainage system for cleansing and filtering out toxins and bacteria. Lymphatic massage can be useful in cases of edema, sports injury or for people experiencing a sluggish immune system or lack of energy. No oils or lotion are used in this massage. and only areas of the body pertinent to treatment are unclothed.
This massage focuses on giving the mother-to-be the special attention she and her baby needs while promoting relaxation. The sole attention of the therapist is to nurture the mother and the baby she carries while lending emotional support. During the massage, the mother is in a side-lying or a semi-reclined position. Pregnancy massage increases blood and lymph circulation, which can reduce swelling. It provides relief from muscle cramps, spasms and reduces stress on weight bearing joints. It also improves outcome of labor and eases labor pain.

If you are looking for relaxation, this is the massage for you. It promotes relaxation while relieving muscle tension. The stroke pressure of the massage can be accommodated at the client’s request. This industry standard style of full body massage allows the client to unwind and often fall asleep as the massage therapist helps to smooth away the day’s stress.
Trigger Point Therapy
Trigger points are areas of specific areas of tenderness in a muscle. They are also referred to as muscle knots. The purpose of trigger point therapy is to eliminate pain and to re-educate the muscles into pain-free habits. Often this technique is used in conjunction with the Deep Tissue massage; however it is a very effective stand alone treatment by itself. After several treatments, the swelling and stiffness of neuromuscular pain is reduced, range of motion is increased, tension is relieved, and circulation, flexibility and coordination are improved.
